Since 1983, we have been designing heat-recovery units with efficiency at their core. We don’t believe in compromising on quality, reliability or sustainability. Our products are made from high quality materials, including our in-house designed composite plate heat-exchanger that promises up to 90% heat-recovery from our Airstream – C range and up to 85% from our Airstream – R range.
Our products are designed to be as efficient as possible, meaning that you’re reducing your environmental and financial cost by using only the energy you need. We have smart features included as standard to help achieve this, such as high-efficiency motors on our fans that reduce fan power by up to 80% when required and the heat-recovery from our heat-exchangers. We also offer customisation on our Airstream – R units so that hot water can be repurposed into your pool.
Our products are built to last through the use of quality, non-corrosive materials. We offer a lifetime warranty on all of our heat-exchangers. This means less replacements, less disposal and less waste.
We design our products to meet your bespoke requirements and then deliver and commission your products. We also offer remote monitoring and optional maintenance, such as our industry-leading 5-year warranty. You can learn more about our 360 solutions here
Airstream is a trading division of Excool, that has been trading since 1983. We first developed commercial pool ventilation air handling units (AHUs); they were the most advanced heat recovery systems for council swimming pool complexes that were available. This helping councils save money in running costs with our in-house built plate heat exchangers. We offer the most competitively priced unit available with no compromise in quality.
We know we have the best service with over the phone assistance if required and over 40 engineers in the UK, meaning we can assist in a timely manner.
No, we do not install the pool ventilation system, but we work with reputable pool contractors all over the UK; and will be able to advise of a suitable contractor to offer the highest standard of install.
Our standard form of transport for delivery to site is via a flatbed vehicle for offloading by others. We can deliver via a HIAB by request, but this would be subject to additional costs.
Pool ventilation units need to run 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, peak running costs are during autumn and winter, during these months we use approximately 70% recirculated air and 30% fresh air dependant on the conditions of the pool hall. We provide running cost calculations when quoting based on a yearly figure. During the summer months when heating demand is minimal, we utilise more fresh air as required.
We provide an industry standard 30mm euro-flange spigot for ductwork to be connected to, not only does this provide the best sealed connection, but it also prevents unnecessary direct screwing into the air handing unit’s casework.
At Airstream we calculate the size of the unit needed on a job-by-job basis. We use CIBSE guidance, evaporation calculations, occupancy allowances, as well as heat losses of the building to establish what size of unit is required for the job.
We predominately follow CIBSE guidance which recommends 4-6 air changes per hour. There are some cases where we exceed CIBSE guidance due to evaporation rates of the pool, heat losses of the building, or occupancy levels in the pool.
You need ventilation in your pool hall for many different reasons. Swimming pools have a high level of evaporation, which means certain humidity levels need to be maintained to prevent damage to the fabric of the building. Maintaining the humidity levels also provides a comfortable and healthy environment for swimmers when entering and leaving the pool.
We deliver anywhere in the UK and Ireland.
If properly maintained, our products can last for over 30 years.

We can provide an additional ‘bypass mode’ which offers free cooling during hot days. If the free cooling is not enough, we are able to offer our DX unit which provides considerable cooling, this unit is also able to heat the pool hall. Our DX unit is also suitable for pool halls that change into multifunctional rooms, such as workout areas or entertaining areas.
All our Airstream units can be located internally or externally dependant on your requirements; we just need to know at time of order. We don’t charge extra for weatherproofing. We recommend the external perimeter of the base is fully supported, so a suitable concrete pad or similar is advisable.
Airstream engineers are happy to attend site to carry out surveys to ensure the right unit is suitable for the application. If one of our vertical or horizontal units doesn’t fit, we are able to provide a bespoke unit in most circumstances. We are also able to provide a flatpack unit or a sectional unit to minimise flatpack build constraints providing a simpler solution for awkward plantroom sizes.
Airstream not only specialise in standard units, but we can also provide a bespoke units to suit virtually any ductwork or plantroom constraints.
Yes, due to our lightweight design and alternative horizontal option, our units are perfect for placement on roofs.
Evaporation rates increase not only the cost of the heated water that evaporates, but also the running costs of heating/dehumidifying the pool hall. When a pool cover is fitted, this prevents most of the evaporation going into the pool hall, but it also means we can reduce the air temperature in the pool hall, thus saving in running costs. When the pool is uncovered, we typically utilise a 30°C air temperature, but when the pool is covered, we reduce the air temperature to 24°C. This is done by utilising a pool covered mode, which can be activated via a switch, which will signal to the Airstream unit that the pool is in covered mode. When the pool is uncovered the unit will ramp back up to maintain the usual 30°C air temperature.
Yes, we can provide an optional Bowmans water heat exchanger within our unit, this is sized appropriately to ensure boiler/heat pump sizes are not excessive. The pool water heat exchanger is also controlled by the Airstream unit in conjunction with the air where set points can be adjusted.
No this does not matter, we will add this into our calculations to ensure the unit sized to suit.
